While both life coaching and therapy use talk sessions with a trained professional, there are important differences between the intention, approach, and results.
Many people begin therapy to identify and further understand how their current behaviors are influenced by their past. Life coaching on the other hand, focuses predominantly on analyzing and improving upon current behaviors. While therapy can be more fluid and long-term, life-coaching takes a more structured and short-term approach. Thus, while the purpose of therapy may be to better understand oneself and the unconscious, the purpose of life coaching is to work towards accomplishing future goals by changing in the here and now.
